If you’re familiar with inkjet technology then you will already know about the advantages of pigment ink technology. If not then you might be interested to know that pigment ink has much greater longevity than dye ink. Dye inks are generally the standard for most everyday inkjet printers. This means that a hi-resolution image or picture printed on photo quality paper using pigment based ink is likely to retain its colour density and richness for a much longer period than a standard dye ink, even when it is exposed to daylight. How often have you seen a computer generated photo print fading badly after a relatively short time? So if you like to print images and put them on display, pigment inks are undoubtedly worth considering. The exact life expectancy or ‘lightfastness’ as it is called is dependent on a number of variables like the environment, type of paper and temperature the image is kept in.
